I keep coming back to this

The way back instead of the reset

Terrie Power Coaching

I don’t think the problem is that we quit too easily.

I think the problem is that we don’t always leave ourselves a way back.

I wrote about this more fully in my blog, and it’s been sitting with me ever since. Not as a solution, but as a question. What would change if consistency wasn’t about holding a perfect line?

This week, I noticed how often habits are framed as all-or-nothing. Either we keep them exactly as planned, or we assume they’re broken. There isn’t much room in between.

Here’s the part that surprised me.

Rituals work because they expect life to change. They’re built with flexibility from the start. Smaller on hard days. Fuller on easier ones. Always returnable.

That feels different than how most of us were taught to think about consistency.

Pause here for a second.

Where in your life would it help to design a way back instead of a perfect streak?

Just something to try.

Pick one routine that feels fragile right now and imagine what a lighter version might look like. Not a replacement. Just a version that still counts when energy is low. Sometimes consistency isn’t about doing more. It’s about making return easier.

If you want the longer version of this thought, the blog is here:
👉 Why Habits Don’t Stick (And the Rituals That Carry You)

I’ve been holding onto the idea that progress comes from thoughtful adjustment, not constant reinvention. That feels kinder. And more sustainable.

I love working with my clients to establish rituals that support their goals and intentional living.

You don’t have to do this alone.

Terrie

Supporting with Intention Terrie Power Coaching … I’ve been noticing how February asks for something different. Not a fresh start. Not a reset. More like settling in. This month keeps pulling my attention back to how I want to live with the goals I’ve already named, while also paying attention to the people I love most. My husband. My family. The relationships that matter even when nothing looks productive. It doesn’t feel separate from intentional living. It feels like part of it. Here’s what...

When effort isn’t the problem Terrie Power Coaching … I’ve been thinking about how quickly we blame ourselves when something stops working. Not dramatically.Just that quiet internal shift where we assume we’re the problem. Earlier this week, I published a longer reflection on the blog about why habits don’t stick. Not from a discipline angle, but from a meaning one. Writing it helped me put words to something I keep bumping into in real life. A few nights ago, I was sitting on my couch in...

when routines need a second look Terrie Power Coaching … I started putting my goals into place this month and almost immediately hit a few bumps. Not big, dramatic ones. Just enough friction to make me stop and think. I had done the planning. I knew what I wanted to focus on. But as the month moved on, it became clear that parts of my week were not actually set up to support what I had just decided mattered. Especially exercise. I had this new idea of how it would fit in. On paper, it made...
