Goals, Forgetfulness, and a Little Distraction (Sound Familiar?)

Terrie Power Coaching

What are my goals???

I was sitting there, heart pounding.

I knew the answer, but my mind was completely blank.

Someone had asked, "So, what goals do you have for this quarter?"

Normally, I'm the one asking that question!

I remembered coaching a group a couple of years ago.

I passionately emphasized the importance of knowing your goals clearly.

Many had admitted they couldn't recall theirs.

So, I had stressed how critical it was to know your goals.

Yet, there I was, suddenly blank.

My goals were clearly written down in my planner and on my computer but I was getting my projects, goals, and tasks all mixed up.

I hadn't kept them front and center, nor had I reviewed them consistently.

It was an immediate wake-up call. So, I decided to make a change.

I started posting my goals where I couldn't miss them.

I reviewed them regularly, found an accountability partner to keep me honest, and pushed myself to actively pursue each one.

If you find yourself forgetting your goals or losing momentum, it might be because...

...you wrote them down but never look at them again.
...you told yourself you'd start next week.
...you’re unsure if you can really follow through.
...you don’t want to make it a big deal.
...you’re afraid of failing, so you don't commit fully.

This doesn’t mean you’re lazy. But it does mean something needs to shift.

Here’s how you can avoid the same awkward moment (let’s get bold!):

  1. Write Your Goals Where You Can't Miss Them:
    • Sticky notes on your mirror, desktop wallpaper, phone alerts—get creative! Visible equals memorable.
  2. Schedule Weekly Check-Ins:
    • Make it a standing date with yourself to review progress. Celebrate small wins to keep excitement alive.
  3. Clarify Your Deep 'Why':
    • Why does this goal matter so much? Dive deep. Your why fuels your passion, especially when motivation dips.
  4. Invite a Bold Accountability Partner:
    • Choose someone who will lovingly but firmly challenge your excuses and cheer you on relentlessly.
  5. Embrace Imperfect Action:
    • Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Progress happens when you risk stepping outside your cozy comfort zone.

No excuses. Let’s make this quarter count!

As we wrap up quarter two, it's crucial to clearly define your goals as we head into quarter three.

Just think of it as naming what you really want.

Getting clear is the first exciting step to making it happen.

Who knows goal writing might just become the next fun thing you and your friends are talking about?

Note to Self: What I'm Learning

I've discovered how easily I can get distracted by simple, relaxing things—like coloring apps on my iPad.

They’re surprisingly calming (who knew?), but also super easy to overdo.

Here are my takeaways:

  • Quick, portable relaxation methods are awesome.
  • But without limits, they can quietly become time-stealers.

Balance is everything!

Question for You:

What's one relaxing habit you enjoy—but sometimes overdo?

Hit reply—I truly love hearing from you and read every response!

Cheering you on,

Terrie

Terrie Power Coaching The Goals You Don’t Set Might Be Holding You Back Several years ago, I realized something about the way I set goals—and I’ve seen others express it as well. I used to only set goals around things I could control. Things like: how many emails I’d send, how many hours I’d work, How many days I’d work out. I avoided setting goals like: “I’ll sign 5 new clients.” “I’ll earn $10K this quarter.” “I’ll lose 10 pounds.” Why? Because those outcomes depend on other people. And I...

Terrie Power Coaching You’re more than who others think you are. To one person, you’re the steady one. To another, the dreamer. To someone else, the fixer… the peacemaker… the bold one. Everyone sees you through their own lens. And over time, it’s easy to forget:You’re allowed to be more than their version of you. We carry stories about ourselves that were handed to us—through family, work, friendships, or past experiences. Some of those stories feel true. Others? They box us in. They keep us...

Terrie Power Coaching Let’s Talk Enneagram & Summer Joy We started the summer off with a bang. My husband and I took a nine-day trip, came home for a few days, and then took a four-day trip with our kids. It was amazing - so much fun and full of great memories. But it was unusual for us. We usually take a longer road trip later in the summer. Suddenly, I feel like there’s nothing left to look forward to. That thought hit me harder than I expected. And as an Enneagram 9, I know how easy it is...
