Before You Ask More of Yourself

…

One thing may be making this quarter harder than it needs to be

You may not need more discipline, more time, or another complicated plan.

You may need to stop asking the final three months of the year to hold everything you hoped to accomplish in the first nine.

That is easy to miss.

When getting it done matters, letting go of any part of the plan can feel like giving up. So we keep adding everything to the list, even when the list no longer fits our time, energy, or actual life.

Here is the unexpected part:

Keeping every item can sometimes protect us from having to choose one.

If everything matters equally, we never have to decide what deserves our best attention.

And yes, I know. Choosing sounds simple until you are looking at your own list.

A quick way to find your real priority

Take five minutes and write down what you still want to accomplish before the end of the year.

Then ask yourself:

  • What would I be genuinely disappointed to leave unfinished?
  • What would make the biggest difference in my life or work?
  • What am I carrying only because it mattered earlier in the year?
  • What could wait without creating a real problem?

Circle one thing.

Then write down one action you can complete within the next seven days.

One item on your list probably does not belong in this quarter anymore. You may already know which one it is.

Two things to keep close this week

The October Blog: How to Finish Strong When You Feel Overwhelmed

This will help you step back from the pressure of the entire quarter and decide what meaningful progress looks like now.

Your one-week action

Do not create the entire plan yet. Choose one step that can be completed before next Thursday.

Why does that matter?

Because momentum becomes easier to trust when you can see evidence that you are moving.

If you want Help staying finishing the year

The Finish Strong Cohort begins Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. Central.

Over seven weeks, we will identify what matters most, create a realistic plan, and keep adjusting it as work, life, and the holidays compete for your attention.

The goal is not to squeeze more into the quarter.

It is to finish what matters in a way that still leaves room for peace and joy.

For now, choose the one goal that deserves to move with you into the rest of the year.

Then take one step.

Choose It Again Terrie Power Coaching … I believe there is something powerful about looking at a goal you almost abandoned and choosing it again. Not because the year went according to plan. Not because you suddenly have more time, energy, or certainty. Because it still matters. I have two big goals left this year. My business goal is going well, but it will not happen accidentally. Reaching it will require focus, excitement, and actions that support where I want to go. My health goal has...

Check the Dashboard Terrie Power Coaching … You almost blamed the wrong thing If the check-engine light came on in your car, would you yell at the car to try harder? Probably not. You would not turn on a motivational podcast, press harder on the gas, and tell the car it must not want the destination badly enough. That would be ridiculous. Yet I have basically done this to myself. Something feels harder than expected, and instead of asking what changed, I assume I need more discipline. Wake up...

The Task Before the Task Terrie Power Coaching … My house is cleaner because I did not want to write this email. There. I said it. Every time I thought about sitting down to write, my brain offered another idea. I can do it later. The house needs attention. It is too hot to think. At one point, I was not even cleaning. I was just staring. The funny part is that I wanted to write the email. But before I could write it, I had to make several decisions about September. That was the task hiding...
