Can We Stop Doing This Every August?

Before you start over, make sure you're solving the right problem.

Terrie Power Coaching

Every August I hear the same thing.

"I need to get back on track."

Maybe you've said it too.

Summer has a way of changing our routines.

We stay up later.

We travel.

We say yes to things we normally wouldn't.

And before we know it, August arrives and it feels like we should magically have everything figured out by Monday.

Can I encourage you with one thought?

Maybe nothing is wrong.

Maybe you don't need to start over.

Maybe you just need the right kind of reset.

As I was writing this month's blog, I realized most of us fall into one of three categories.

We need a Reboot because we simply need to get back to the routines that were already serving us.

We need an Update because life has changed, and our routines need to change with it.

Or we need a Restore because we're in a completely different season and it's time to rethink what really belongs.

Before you change everything, ask yourself:

  • What was working before summer?
  • What feels harder than it used to?
  • Has my life changed, or have I just had a busy season?
  • What's one small step I could take this week?

You don't have to figure out your whole fall today.

Just take the next right step.

👉 In this month's blog, I walk through each type of reset and how to know which one you need. I hope it encourages you.

Speaking of Personalities...

As an Enneagram 9, I have to laugh at myself this time of year.

Part of me thinks, "Everything will settle down eventually."

The other part knows that if I don't choose my routines on purpose...life will choose them for me.

Maybe your personality is having a completely different conversation.

Type 1: You're already making lists and wondering why everyone else isn't moving faster.

Type 2: You're helping everyone else get ready for the new season. Just don't forget to check in on yourself.

Type 3: You've already set a few goals and you're ready to make this month count.

Type 4: You're hoping this season feels more meaningful, not just more productive.

Type 5: You're still gathering information because you'd like a better plan before making any changes.

Type 6: You've already thought through every possible scenario. You're just trying to be prepared.

Type 7: You're wondering why everyone wants summer to end. There's still plenty of fun to be had!

Type 8: You're ready. Just point you toward the goal.

Type 9: You're hoping life settles down on its own...while quietly putting off that decision you've been meaning to make.

That's what I love about the Enneagram.

It reminds us there isn't one "right" way to move into a new season.

There are different personalities, different strengths, and different starting points.

The goal isn't to become someone else.

It's to build rhythms that fit the way God uniquely wired you.

Have a wonderful week!

Terrie

P.S. If you've been feeling scattered, behind, or unsure where to begin, I think this month's blog will encourage you. It might help you realize you don't need to change everything. You may simply need the right kind of reset.

What if you never felt ready? Terrie Power Coaching … A question for you... Have you noticed how "I just need to think about it a little more" can quietly turn into weeks...or even months? I laugh because I've said it, too. Sometimes it sounds like:"Let me do a little more research." Or..."I just need to get organized first." Or my personal favorite..."I'll start on Monday." None of those things are bad. But every now and then, they're really just another way of saying, "I'm waiting until I...

What If That Isn't True? Terrie Power Coaching … I think our brains have a favorite hobby. They make lists. Not grocery lists or to-do lists. Lists of everything that could go wrong. Why now isn't the right time. Why you're too busy. Why you don't know enough. Why someone else could do it better. The funny thing is...we rarely realize we're only reading one list. Try This Five-Minute Exercise Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left, write down every reason you feel...

A Question Worth Asking Terrie Power Coaching … Hi Reader Have you ever noticed that one conversation can change the direction of your life? Not because someone gave you the answer. Because they asked a question you hadn't considered. I've been thinking about that a lot this month as Terrie Power Coaching celebrates five years. When I look back, I don't remember every strategy I tried. I remember the conversations. The People Behind the Progress I've realized something I didn't expect. The...
