When life hits “too much,” here’s my GO-TO move

Terrie Power Coaching

My week went off the rails… but I didn’t.

Last week was one of those “how is all this happening at once?” kind of weeks.

Client meetings stacked on top of each other.
Progress reports due.
A new group meeting.
A workshop to present.
A podcast release.
A summit appearance.
Oh, and an escape room to design for our Halloween party because my “simple party” ideas never stay simple.

Then I got sick.

And this was all while prepping to launch my next cohort.

At one point I stared at my planner, blinked twice, and said out loud,

“Nope. I’m out.”

Decision fatigue had fully arrived.

That’s when I went to my backup plans, the Essentials version of my week.

Eating out instead of cooking.
Stretching instead of the gym.
Short quiet time.
Work trimmed down to what actually mattered.

Not pretty, but it worked.

Backup plans aren’t lazy. They’re survival.

💭 Note to Self: What I’m Learning

Listening to the Midlife & Beyond Enneagram Summit reminded me: midlife is real.

Kids halfway grown, parents needing more, jobs still running full-speed, and memory… well, it’s hit-or-miss. (If I don’t write it down, it’s gone. Let’s call that honesty, not decline.)

Then the holidays show up, full of emotions, expectations, and logistics nobody trained us for.

Trying to “keep it all together” isn’t noble. It’s exhausting.
That’s why backup plans matter. They protect energy and make room for what actually counts.

🎯 Try This:

Think about one part of your life that always unravels when things get busy, meals, workouts, mornings, whatever.
Here’s how to make a quick backup that keeps you moving:

  • Turn your phone into your second brain. One note called “Backups.” Jot your go-to takeout spots, 10-minute workouts, and bare-minimum routines.
  • Voice memos count. Too tired to type? Talk. Use your recorder or Otter.
  • “Give me three fast dinner ideas with what’s in my fridge.”
    or
“Make me a 3-day light routine for when I’m sick.”
  • One-tap reminders. Set a repeating note in Todoist or Google Keep that says “Check backup plan.”

Simple stuff. Real payoff. The goal is fewer choices when your brain’s fried.

Terrie Power Coaching A December Reset and What It’s Teaching Me There’s something about December that makes things feel clearer. The lights, the quiet moments, the sense that a new year is close. This year, that feeling has shown up in a new way for me. I’ve been working on my 2026 offers and getting steadily more excited. But in the middle of all that, I hit a wall. Not because I didn’t have ideas, but because I had too many. My Enneagram Nine brain went into full “every path looks good”...

Terrie Power Coaching When Thanksgiving starts to look different This year, our Thanksgiving looks different. Maybe yours does too. We’re in that new phase of life where the “kids” are married, engaged, working real jobs with real schedules, juggling in-laws, holidays, and responsibilities of their own. And this year, all of that showed up in our plans. We’re still having our traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, but not everyone can be here. Some are working. Some are with other family....
